Just Another Disability - Making Design Dementia Friendly is a year-long project taking place in Scotland to create the first comprehensive guide to dementia-friendly design. Based in Glasgow, this unique cross-agency project on the design of dementia-friendly environments forms part of the activities surrounding Glasgow 1999 UK City of Architecture and Design, and has received substantial financial support from the European Commission. At its heart has been the development of methods to engage with people with dementia as well as their carers and families, assisting them to give their views and ideas.
Project activities and tools for the future include:
THE PROJECT GROUP: Throughout the year a team of people have worked together. Their membership has been drawn from Glasgow City Council, Greater Glasgow Health Board, Glasgow 1999, Dementia Services Development Centre at Stirling University, the Mackintosh School of Architecture, Strathclyde University, and independent architects; and in consultation with people with dementia, their families and their carers.
